    Super Happy for deciding to purchase my first professional quality 2 x 72 belt grinder from Torus CNC. The owner Rich Answered all my questions and fast and he stayed in contact with me assuring everything went smoothly. I decided to use Taurus CNC because almost everything is made from high quality aluminum. That means no rust! I’m using a misting system that gets water everywhere. The set up took 20 minutes literally. Everything came preassembled and very well packaged. If you’re thinking about buying a new professional belt grinder for knife making or custom fab work this is the spot you won’t be disappointed.

    I purchased the M90 about three weeks ago and finally got some time to put it to use. Throughout the buying process, Rich stayed in touch, answering questions and providing updates. The grinder even arrived a little sooner than expected; well packed and ready for use right out of the box.

Why plates keep a blade flat

Two thick aluminum plates pull heat out of the blade while the clamp holds it flat; that is plate quenching, and it is what this vise is built for.

Plate Quenching: The Aluminum Sandwich

  • firm, even clamping pressure (vise or clamps)
  • aluminum plate, 1"+ thick (thin plates warp and lose contact)
  • aluminum plate
  • blade sealed in a stainless foil pouch, straight from the kiln
  • compressed air into the gaps speeds the cool

Aluminum wicks heat out of the thin blade faster than the steel needs — while holding it dead flat.

Air-hardening steels only (AEB-L, MagnaCut, CPM & most stainless). Carbon steels still need oil.

  • Shipping and lead time

    In stock and usually ships from Sterling, Illinois in seven to ten business days from time of order, with a tracking number the day it goes out. A more detailed delivery estimate will be given when you order. Returns are case by case: contact me first, within two weeks of arrival. Approved returns carry a 25% restocking fee and the buyer covers insured return shipping. Ground shipping in the lower 48: $95 a grinder, $145 with a motor package, $75 a motor on its own, and $35 for the first accessory plus $15 each after. A grinder with a motor and any accessories is capped at $145.

  • Warranty

    I warranty the non-wear parts against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. Motors and VFDs carry their manufacturer's warranty; contact me for guidance on the manufacturer's claim process.

  • Returns

    Returns are reviewed case by case and must be pre-approved within two weeks of arrival. The buyer covers insured return shipping, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping is not refunded.

Straight answers

Questions I get about the Quench Master 2500

What blades does it fit?
Anything up to about 14 inches of blade: kitchen knives, hunters, bushcraft blades and most fixed blades. Choppers and swords are too long for it.
Why so much clamping force?
Because a thin blade wants to move as it hardens. Twenty-five hundred pounds of clamping force helps hold it flat through the quench and gives you a fixture to push a mild warp back while the steel is still hot.
Does it work for oil-quenched steel?
Plate quenching is for air-hardening stainless and similar steels. Simple carbon steels like 1084 still want oil; the vise is still handy for straightening right after the quench.
How fast does it ship?
It is in stock and usually ships from my shop in Sterling, Illinois in seven to ten business days from time of order. A more detailed delivery estimate will be given when you order.
Can I return it if it does not work for me?
Email me first, within two weeks of arrival. Returns are approved case by case, carry a 25% restocking fee, and you cover insured return shipping. If there is a workmanship problem, I will work with you to remedy it.
