What toruscnc.com collects, why it collects it, how long it is kept, and how to ask me to delete it.
Last updated: October 8, 2026.
The short version
Torus CNC is me, Rich Linville, in Sterling, Illinois. I collect what I need to answer your questions, get your order paid for and shipped, and keep this site running. I don’t sell your information. The site does use Google Analytics and Google Ads to count visits, quote requests and orders, so I can see which pages and ads bring people to the shop. That measurement never includes your name, email, phone number or anything you write to me, and you can turn it off: here’s how.
Messages you send me
The contact and support forms ask for your name, email and message; the contact form also takes a phone number and subject if you add them. What you send goes into the customer records on my own store system, so I can answer you and see the history the next time you write. If that system can’t take it at that moment, the message is saved to a file on my server until I move it over. When you email, call or text me instead, I may add a note of it to the same records.
If you ask for shop updates by email, that address goes on a list for exactly that, kept on the same store system. I send a note when something is worth knowing, never anyone else's mail, and I take you off the moment you ask: reply to any update, or email me.
Your account and your orders
When you order or open an account, the store keeps your name, email, phone number, shipping and billing addresses and what you bought. I use that to build and ship your order, answer warranty questions and show your order history when you sign in. I never see your password.
If you bought from the old toruscnc.com shop or from my Etsy shop, those orders are in my records too, so I can help with parts and warranty. Old-shop orders are only shown in a toruscnc.com account once that account’s email address has been verified as yours.
Card payments
Checkout takes credit and debit cards through Stripe. You type your card details into Stripe’s own fields on the checkout page and they go straight to Stripe; your card number never reaches my server and I never see it. Stripe’s script loads only on the checkout page, and Stripe handles what it collects under its own privacy policy.
What the site keeps in your browser
The site itself keeps three small things in your browser’s local storage:
- your cart’s id, so your cart is still there when you come back;
- the number of items in your cart, for the cart icon in the header;
- a sign-in token while you’re signed in to your account, removed when you sign out.
While a tab is open, that tab’s session storage also holds the grinder options you picked on a product page, so they’re still set when you come back to it. After an order, it holds a note that the order has already been reported to Google Analytics, so it isn’t counted twice. Closing the tab clears both. Clear this site’s data in your browser and the rest is gone too; you’ll just start with an empty cart.
Once Google’s tag has loaded, Google Analytics and Google Ads also set cookies on toruscnc.com. They’re listed in the next section, with what each one is for and how long it lasts. Cloudflare, which serves the site, and Stripe, on the checkout page, may set their own cookies for security and fraud prevention.
Analytics and advertising measurement
I use two Google products to see how people find this site and what they do on it. Google Analytics counts visits and what happens on them. Google Ads tells me which of my ads lead to a quote request or an order. Both run through one script from Google, the Google tag. It isn’t part of the page when it first loads; it loads once you scroll, tap, click or type, or after the page has been open for about four seconds.
Once the tag has loaded, Google gets:
- the pages you look at and the page, link or ad that brought you here, with the details any website sees: your type of device and browser, and your approximate location, which Google works out from your IP address;
- how you use those pages: Google Analytics can also record how long you stay, how far you scroll, which links to other sites you follow and what you search for on the site;
- one event when you send a quote request or a message through the contact form. For a quote, it carries the grinder and the price the configurator showed you;
- when you place an order through checkout, the order number, what you bought, and the total with shipping and tax.
Google never gets your name, email address, phone number, street address, password or card details from this site, or anything you type into the contact or support form. One thing to know: when you press Request a quote on a product page, the contact page’s address carries the build you picked (grinder, options, add-ons and price), and Google sees that address like any other.
Google Ads uses the same visits to measure which of my ads lead to a quote request or an order, and may use them to show you Torus CNC ads later, on Google and on other sites. For that, Google may also use its own cookies on its own domains.
The Google tag sets these cookies on toruscnc.com:
_ga, Google Analytics: a random number that tells your browser’s visits apart from everyone else’s. Kept up to 2 years._ga_RWNXW2JDPHand_ga_S0S4Z7BL7L, Google Analytics, one for each of my two Analytics accounts: they keep track of the current visit. Kept up to 2 years._gcl_au, Google Ads: links your visits to my ads, so a quote request or an order can be counted for the ad that led to it. Kept up to 90 days. If you came here by clicking one of my Google ads, Google Ads may also set a cookie starting with_gcl_that remembers that click, for the same 90 days.
Google keeps the Analytics data as configured in Google Analytics, and handles everything it collects under Google’s privacy policy. Google also explains how it uses information from sites that use its services.
You can keep yourself out of it:
- Do Not Track. If your browser offers it, turn it on in its privacy settings. When your browser sends Do Not Track, or tells sites you prefer to use less data, this site never loads the Google tag, and nothing goes to Google Analytics or Google Ads.
- Block it. An ad or content blocker that blocks
googletagmanager.comkeeps the Google tag out. The site works the same without it. - Google’s opt-out add-on. The Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on turns Google Analytics off on every site, this one included.
- Google’s ad settings. Turn off personalized ads in Google’s ad settings to stop seeing ads based on the sites you visit.
Clearing this site’s cookies deletes Google’s cookies here too, and your next visit starts fresh.
Server logs
Like any web server, mine records each request: the IP address, the browser, the page asked for and the time. I use those logs only to keep the site running and to stop abuse. Cloudflare sees the same requests on their way through and may keep its own traffic measurements.
Videos and other sites
A video on this site loads nothing from YouTube until you press play. Then the player comes from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, and YouTube’s policy applies. Links to Google, Etsy, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Amazon take you to those sites and their own policies.
Who else sees it
Nobody buys your information from me. Your contact and order details go only to the services I need to answer you and to get your order paid for and delivered, and only for that job:
- Stripe, for the payment;
- Shippo, my shipping-label service, and the carrier that delivers your order, for your name and shipping address;
- Resend, which delivers my order emails and replies, and the copy of each message you send through the site that comes to my inbox.
Google gets the measurement described above, without your name or contact details. Cloudflare carries every request to the site on its way through.
How long I keep it
Messages and my replies stay in my records so I have the history if you write again. Order records stay in my books for taxes and so I can stand behind the warranty. An account stays open until you ask me to close it. What Google keeps, and for how long, is under Analytics and advertising measurement.
Getting a copy, or having it deleted
Email me at rich.linville@toruscnc.com or call or text 1-779-372-0262, and tell me whether you want a copy of what I have on you, a correction, or for me to delete it. I handle these myself. If there is something I have to keep, like an order record for my taxes, I’ll tell you what it is and why.
If what this site collects changes, I’ll update this page and the date at the top.
