Got this belt grinder for our farm shop and it's been awesome. The machining quality really impressed me - everything fits tight and feels solid, you can tell they put real care into making it.

Setup took maybe 20 minutes tops and it was ready to roll. Runs super smooth and quiet with basically no vibration. Even though it's aluminum, there's zero flex or rattling - feels rock solid even when you're really putting it to work.

Love the tracking system and the ratchet belt tensioning - makes changing belts quick and painless. All the controls just make sense.

But honestly, what made this purchase special was dealing with Rich. He was incredible - answered all my questions before I bought it, made sure I got the right setup, and followed up several times after it arrived to check how everything was running. You just don't get that kind of service anymore.

First belt grinder we've owned and I'm really happy with it. Thing's built to last and performs great. Would definitely recommend it if you're looking for a solid grinder for your shop.

Keep up the fantastic work Rich!

Quality , performance and a work of art all rolled into one. I was shopping around for a new 2x72 grinder when I stumbled upon Torus CNC website and after taking a look at what they’re offering I couldn’t say no. I purchased the M-90-AL - 2 x 72 - Tilting Belt Grinder without hesitation and I couldn’t be happier with this grinder. It has all the feature you’ll get on any modern 2x72 (tilt function included). It accepts 1.5 inch tooling arms making it universal for and attachment you can get on the market. Every single part of it was cnc machined to perfection. There were no burs/ hard edges and everything is fit and finished so well that it ought to make even a machinist blush when they unbox it. Mine came fully assembled. All I had to do was mount the motor and a contact wheel and I was making sparks. The platen I’m using on it though is an ORIGIN that I bought off eBay many years ago and I was concerned that it wouldn’t work well on this grinder because the main body is approx 1/2 thick but to my surprise there were zero belt alignment issues using another makers platen. I didn’t have to add a single spacer or do any milling to the mating surface to get it to work. I did however drill and tap 2 new holes in the tooling arm I bought with it for it to mount up but that’s nothing. Because it works in harmony with the rest of the grinder after installed .I even recycled an older drive wheel without issues. When buying this I was given the option of his ratcheting tensioner system so I chose that option , and I gotta say ….this is so professionally done my jaw dropped just looking at it before a belt even went on this grinder. The ratcheting system is a bit of a learning curve since my other grinder uses gas shocks but after having experiences this ratcheting system I just can’t go back to a grinder with spring or shock tensioning. I absolutely love it. And I believe that adds to why this thing has such good tracking because it’s giving me the perfect tensioning I wasn’t getting from my other grinder .it really tracks like a dream! I put a 1.5 hp 3500 rpm motor on mine and I can really lean into when grinding and I can’t get the belt to slip off to the side like I can another grinder. The tilt function is as beautifully done as it is functional. It takes all of 2 seconds to unlock this grinder and tilt it over on the side. And I’m back to grinding. The pictures of this grinder on Torus CNC website just don’t do it justice. This thing is a real cnc work of art. I’ve caught myself just starting at it since it’s been in my shop lol. My only regret was that my budget only allowed me to buy one of these grinders. In the future I’d like to get another. And even the variable speed option. All in all this grinder exceeded my expectation by a long mile and I have no regrets whatsoever. Anyone reading this and is considering adding this grinder to their arsenal you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how friendly and communicative Torus can be if you shoot them an email with any questions or inquiries. Well , I think that just about sums it up so I’m out of here. Thanks for reading.

Why this one

Built for Makers

  • Exclusive Gunmetal Grey / silver vein powdercoat finish on a 3/8-inch steel chassis

  • Machined billet-aluminum dual-axis tracking and a 304 stainless ratchet tensioner

  • 90-degree tilt on a pin, standard 1.5-inch tooling arms, deep flat platen and 4-inch drive wheel included

Nebula 2x72 grinder, front three-quarter view: aluminum arm, black plate, Safety Rules label, on black with a purple glow
A Nebula tilted to horizontal, flat platen and both platen wheels level above the black steel base
The Nebula tilts from vertical to horizontal on a pin.

Vertical to horizontal in four moves

The Nebula tilts 90 degrees on a pin, so going from a bevel to a flat horizontal pass takes four moves and no tools.

Tilts without tools

  1. Loosen the handle
  2. Pull the pin
  3. Swing the chassis from vertical to horizontal
  4. Pin it
  • tilt lock lever
  • 90-degree tilt on a pin

You go from grinding a bevel to a flat horizontal pass without opening the toolbox.

Values marked on the figure: vertical; horizontal.

The tilt joint up close: the lock lever and the pin, locked at vertical or horizontal.

Who it's for

Built for the work you actually do

Makers who appreciate craftsmanship, performance, and purposeful design. The Corvus Edition brings a distinctive finish to the Nebula’s substantial steel chassis, precise tracking and proven 2×72 platform.

What’s in the box

  • Fully assembled and shop-tested Nebula 2x72 - Corvus Edition chassis in 3/8-inch steel with the Gunmetal Grey / silver vein powdercoat finish
  • Deep flat platen attachment on a 1.5-inch tooling arm
  • 4-inch machined aluminum drive wheel with 5/8-inch keyed bore
  • 304 stainless ratchet belt tensioner and dual-axis tracking assembly, tracked and tested
  • Motor and VFD sold separately, or add a package at checkout

Belt changes: release, swap, ratchet

I use a 304 stainless ratchet instead of a spring: each tooth of the cam holds the tracking wheel a step further out, and the pawl keeps it there.

The 304 stainless ratchet tensioner

  1. Release
  2. Swap
  3. Ratchet
  • stainless tension arm
  • spring pawl
  • toothed cam
  • tracking wheel

Every Torus grinder ships with machined spacing built in and a 304 stainless ratchet tensioner, so a belt change is release, swap, ratchet.

A spring tensioner fades; a ratchet does not.

A belt change on the Nebula, one tooth at a time.

Tracking is one knob

Tracking is one small, repeatable adjustment at the 4-lobe knob on the machined billet-aluminum head, the same head on every Torus.

Tracks with one knob

  • 4-lobe tracking knob
  • machined billet-aluminum dual-axis tracking head
  • wide aluminum idler wheel

The stainless ratchet tensioner sets belt pressure in one motion, and tracking takes one small, repeatable adjustment.

The dual-axis tracking head end on, with the belt on the wide idler wheel.

Options

Choose and compare product options

Compare motor packages, attachments and finish choices before ordering.

  • No motor package ($0)

The bare chassis. Choose this if you already have a 56C face-mount motor and VFD, or if you are sourcing your own from my Amazon links page.
  • 1 HP TechTop with KBAC-27D VFD, 120V (+$1,295)

A TechTop TEFC 3,600 RPM 56C face-mount motor paired with a KB Electronics KBAC-27D drive. The KBAC is a sealed NEMA-4X unit built for shop dust and grit, with the speed dial and the forward/off/reverse switch right on the face, and it arrives programmed for the motor it ships with. Runs on a standard 120V household circuit. You finish the cord and plug wiring with the supplied guide.
  • 2 HP TechTop with KBAC-27D VFD, 220V (+$1,395)

The same sealed KBAC-27D drive with twice the motor. It needs a 220V single-phase circuit. Take it for heavy stock removal, forge scale and all-day production work; the extra torque is what keeps the belt from bogging in a hard push.
  • Small wheel attachment ($289)

Start with the arm and holder and choose the rubber wheel sizes you need.
  • Small wheel starter set ($469 at list price)

The attachment plus 1/2, 3/4 and 1-inch rubber wheels. Eligible attachments and wheels save 5% at 2 units, 10% at 3 units, 15% at 4 units, 20% at 5+ units. A grinder counts as one unit; only eligible parts are discounted.
  • Adjustable work table 6x16 ($275)

A tilting steel work table on its own arm for repeatable bevel angles.
  • 8-inch contact wheel attachment ($239)

For hollow grinds and profiling. Larger diameters are available on its own product page.

Straight answers

Questions I get about the Nebula-Corvus Edition

What makes the Nebula 2x72 - Corvus Edition special?
The name connects two elements of the night sky: nebulae, the clouds of gas and dust among the stars, and Corvus, a constellation named from the Latin word for raven. This limited edition brings that celestial character to the Nebula in an exclusive Gunmetal Grey / silver vein powdercoat finish.
What comes with the Nebula 2x72 - Corvus Edition package?
The $1,495 buys the grinder itself, fully assembled and shop-tested: the 3/8-inch steel chassis in the Gunmetal Grey / silver vein powdercoat finish, a deep flat platen attachment on a 1.5-inch tooling arm, a 4-inch machined aluminum drive wheel with a 5/8-inch keyed bore, and the 304 stainless ratchet tensioner with the dual-axis tracking assembly. I track and test every one before it ships. A motor and VFD are not in that price — add a package at checkout and the VFD arrives programmed and mounted, or run your own 56C face-mount motor. Belts, work rests, small wheel sets and contact wheels are separate.
Do I need to buy a motor separately?
The base price is the assembled chassis without a motor. Add a 1 HP or 2 HP motor and VFD package at checkout: the VFD arrives programmed and mounted, and you finish the cord and plug wiring with the supplied guide. Or supply your own 56C face-mount motor.
Nebula or Nova, which should I pick?
They are the same design in two materials. The Nebula is 3/8-inch steel: more mass, less vibration, harder to move. The Nova is 6061 aluminum: lighter to tilt and relocate, and corrosion resistant. If your grinder lives on one bench and you grind heavy stock, take the Nebula.
How long until it ships?
Most orders ship in seven to ten business days from time of order. A more detailed delivery estimate will be given upon ordering your grinder. If you add accessories or I am backlogged, it can run longer.
Will my existing attachments fit?
Yes, if they run on an industry-standard 1.5-inch square tooling arm. Platens, contact wheels, small wheel arms and work rests from most makers drop right in.
What if something is wrong when it arrives?
Email me at rich.linville@toruscnc.com when it arrives with the order number and photos or video of the problem. I will review it under the returns or warranty policy. If it is a workmanship problem, I will work with you to remedy it.
